Many Airstrikes and ground skirmishes have taken place since, with several parties calling for a cease-fire, but no agreement as yet. Those paying the highest price for the war are the South Ossetian civilians, which may have suffered (depending on who is reporting) between 100 and 2,000 deaths to date

Yes, yes, we know. While some just seem to be figuring this out, Final Fantasy XIII is coming to the Xbox 360 *and* the PC. Square Enix announced this way back at its E3 press conference. Probably going lost in the jaw-dropping Xbox 360 announcement. To review, here’s how the FFXIII development cycle is going down.

Today I received an email stating that my photos were available for viewing online from Snapfish. Their preview images are 590×343 and you can do a variety of color corrections on them. They also offer 1500×1000 “Hi-Res” images available for download for 5cents each, however with a little work you can easily download them for free by taking advantage of a bug in their “Print at Home” feature. The scans are pretty decent considering they are fully-automated minilab scans. I recommend you download a free consumer-centered editor like Windows Live Gallery or Picasa and do some auto-corrections and a small ammount of sharpening (really easy in Windows Live Gallery) and you’ll have some decent pics. In Photoshop, I ran the image through Digital ROC and used Smart Sharpen to obtain similar results. While I have received neither the prints nor the negatives yet, I am minorly disappointed in their digital prints service. I ordered about 20 4×6 matte prints on July 14th, and they just shipped on the 24th. But the price is defidentally right for relatively unimportant stuff. Below are some comparisons of the various scans.

Last night I received an email from MPix.com saying my order was developed and ready for me to pay. I had a variety of payment options, but I chose the cheapest (no prints, no cd) and paid $3.95 that’s right, no shipping charges. I immediately had a nice selection of images available, from which I could order prints on various papers, a higher-resolution copy, or a cd of them. The preview images were fairly decent as online previews go, 470×317 and when you buy the CD or a Hi-resolution file you get a 6.4 MB file. I attached a sample of their online previews.
I should receive the negatives any day now so I will update when I receive them.
